Brown QB Perry Sets Single Season Record for Total Offense in 48-24 Win Over Columbia

Brown quarterback EJ Perry accounted for four touchdowns and set a single-season record for total offense as he Bears cruised past Columbia 48-24 on Saturday afternoon in New York.
"This was a great win over a very good Columbia team. This win means a lot to a great group of seniors and it's wonderful to see them having some success. We fought through the ebbs and flows of the game and keep improving every week,” said Brown head coach James Perry after the game.
Perry finished the day with 334 yards of total offense (300 passing, 34 rushing).

The Bears improve to 2-7 overall and 1-5 in the Ivy League.
Columbia drops to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in the Ivy League.
Brown Pulls Away
After the Bears led 21-0 after the first quarter, Columbia rallied to cut Brown’s lead to three, 27-24, in the third quarter.
The Bears responded when Perry connected on a 49-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Prall to give Brown a 34-24 lead.
Bears' defensive tackle Callum Flanders forced a fumble at the Columbia 25-yard line that was recovered by Anthony Mastroni.
Seven plays later, LJ Harriott hauled in a 10-yard touchdown from Perry with 5:48 left in the quarter to build Brown's lead to 41-24.
Perry would throw one more touchdown pass as the Bears would cruise the rest of the way.
Brown’s Fast Start
Brown's defense opened the scoring on Columbia's first offensive possession when Malcolm Brunson stripped the ball from Columbia quarterback Ty Lenhart.
The loose ball was picked up by sophomore Nick Messina, who ran 38-yards into the end zone for a touchdown and a 7-0 Brown lead.
The Bears struck again on their first offensive series, driving 64-yards in five plays, capped off by a five-yard touchdown run by Allen Smith giving the Bears a 14-0 lead with 11:29 left in the opening quarter.
The Bears added to their lead, this time following a blocked punt where Brown defensive tackle Mastroni pushed the Lions' blocker into the punt at the Columbia 34-yard line.
On a fourth-down play, Perry ran into the end zone from two yards out to give the Bears a 21-0 advantage after the first quarter.
Next Up
Brown concludes its 2019 season at home next week, hosting Dartmouth on Saturday, November 23.
Kick-off is 12:00 noon at Brown Stadium.
