William E. Gillis, Sr., Dies at 87

William E. Gillis, Sr., 87, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Monday, July 11, 2022. He was the husband of the late Claire V. (Bastien) Gillis. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Timothy and Gladys (Ciak) Gillis.

William was employed as a clerk at the Department of Motor Vehicles and retired in 1998.

He was an avid Red Sox fan, and enjoyed playing cards, bowling, billiards, crossword puzzles, trivia, reading and karaoke. He was the loving father of Deborah J. Carmody (Steve), William E. Gillis, Jr., Patricia E. Gillis, Susan L. Mateus (Anthony), Michael T. Gillis (Michael Santurri); grandfather of Steven M. Carmody, Jenilisa Carmody, Steven P. Gillis, David M. Gannon, Jr., Daniel E. Gannon, Stefanie R. Gannon, Jesse L. S. Gannon, Matthew G. Mateus, Justin G. Mateus and the late William E. Gillis, III.

He also leaves 9 great-grandchildren and was the brother of Marion Parker, Joseph Gillis, and the late Timothy Gillis and James Gillis.

A visitation will be held Friday, July 15, 2022, from 4-7 pm with a service at 7 pm in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick.
