Sith Sompaseuth, of Cumberland, Dies at 70

A beautifully kept, neat, and tidy home on a street called Windy Valley Drive was Sith Sompaseuth’s piece of the American Dream. From the Southeast Asian country of Laos to the Blackstone Valley of Northern Rhode Island, Sith Sompaseuth traveled across the globe to forge the very same dream countless millions did before him. While the love of his native land of Laos would forever be etched in his heart, Sith held his new country, the United States, just as close to his heart. Through his tireless hard work and dedication, Sith created a legacy for his family that will endure.
Sith Sompaseuth, 70, of Windy Valley Drive, Cumberland died Sunday, August 8, 2021, at home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Vong Sompaseuth. They were married on January 6, 1976, and shared over 45 wonderful years together.
Sith was born in Vientiane, Laos, and raised in the nearby countryside. He was the son of the late Siengsong Sompaseuth and Nang Mee Sompaseuth.
Sith came to the United States on June 15, 1981, a date he would remember forever. The family initially arrived in New Jersey and later came to Rhode Island. Sith was a longtime resident of Woonsocket before moving to Cumberland several years ago.
Sith was employed as a machinist at Clark, Cutler, and McDermott, Inc. in Milford for many years before retiring.
Sith was a member of the Laos Friendship Association. He was an avid boxing fan. His favorite champ in the ring was Mike Tyson but Sith just loved to watch any and all boxing matches. Sith’s favorite leisure time activity was to go fishing. He was a gardener with the greenest thumb you could imagine. It was in his nature to provide food for his family by fishing and gardening and he just loved doing that.
Sith was a regular “Bob Vila” by doing projects and repair work around his home. He was a power tool collector and spent days tinkering and building with his arsenal of tools. He was meticulous about his work and just as neat and clean in putting everything away in its proper place.
Music was central to Sith. He loved parties and dancing, anything that brought family and friends together was right up Sith’s alley. He was the manager of a band and played the keyboard. Of special significance to Sith was playing instruments he brought from Laos. The music of his homeland was his way of keeping the Laotian heritage part of his family tradition.
Sith was an outgoing and sociable person who loved to get together with others. Sith was always a dapper gentleman and looking sharp with his suit and jewelry was his way of being a “Sharp Dressed Man”.
One of the most special days in Sith’s life came when he became an American citizen. He was always very patriotic and loved the USA. While Laos would always have a special place in Sith’s heart, Sith was, in the words of the song by Lee Greenwood, “Proud to be an American, Where at least I know I’m free”!!!
Sith will be remembered as a devoted husband and father. He loved his grandchildren beyond words!
In addition to his wife of 45 years Sith is survived by his daughter who was the light of his life, Outhit "OT" Sompaseuth-Keomanivong, and her husband Phongsaly “Lee” Keomanivong of Cumberland. Sith’s three “stars in the sky” are his grandchildren Jaydon Keomanivong, Daosavahn Sompaseuth-Keomanivong, and Aurelia Sompaseuth-Keomanivong. Sith is also survived by many relatives in the United States and Laos.
Sith’s funeral services will begin on Friday, August 13, 2021, at 8:00 am at the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket.
Following the service, the funeral procession will travel to Swan Point Cemetery on Blackstone Blvd. in Providence.
