Rose A. (Rafferty) Bonaventure, of Pawtucket, Dies at 95

Rose A. (Rafferty) Bonaventure, 95, of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 20, 2021.

She was the beloved wife of John B. Bonaventure for seventy-two loving years. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, she was a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Buttimer) Rafferty.

In 1948, on a visit to relatives in Pawtucket, Rose met her future husband. She was a longtime parishioner of the former Church of St. Leo the Great, now St. John Paul II Parish. Rose was a member of the Daughters of Isabella for over twenty-five years and was involved in many of the parish’s committees and ministries. She enjoyed traveling, especially to her homeland of Northern Ireland, where she would visit with her family and dear friends. Rose was proud of her Irish heritage and loved to sing and dance, especially Irish music, and Irish Step Dancing. She will be lovingly remembered by all whose lives she has touched over the past ninety-five years.

Besides her beloved husband, Rose leaves four children, Mary B. Angell of Barrington, Rosalyn J. Bonaventure of Quincy, MA, John J. Bonaventure and his wife, Christine, of Harleysville, PA, and Martina M. Fleury and her husband, Robert, of Pawtucket; seven grandchildren, Michael, Sean and Emily Bonaventure, John and Alexandra Rahill, Ethan and Nicholas Fleury; a son-in-law, Paul Rahill of Billerica, MA; a brother, Michael Rafferty of Belfast, Northern Ireland, and numerous nieces and nephews in both the U.S. and Ireland. She was the loving mother of the late Maureen Rahill, mother-in-law of the late Donald C. Angell, and sister of the late Maureen Nugent, Gerard, John, and William Rafferty.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, May 28th, at 11 a.m. from William W. Tripp Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Noon in St. Cecilia Church (St. John Paul II Parish) 755 Central Ave., Pawtucket.

Interment will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, from 5 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to St. John Paul II Parish, P.O. Box 2390, Pawtucket, RI 02861 would be appreciated.
