Richard J. Souza, of North Providence, Dies at 76

Richard J. Souza, 76, of North Providence, died Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Miriam Hospital. He was the husband of Lucille (Medeiros) Souza.

Richard was born in Barrington, the son of the late Frank and Jennie (Borges) Souza.

He was a truck driver for over 34 years for the Narragansett Lumber Co., before retiring 20 years ago. Richard also owned a Janitorial cleaning company.

He had lived in North Providence since 1985, coming from Providence and previously Barrington.

Mr. Souza was a parishioner of St. Agnes Church. He enjoyed NASCAR, bowling, traveling to Florida, where he wintered. He also enjoyed going to the casino and camping. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons Richard J. Souza Jr. and his wife Robin of North Providence and Michael J. Souza of North Providence. Richard was the grandfather of Michael Souza, Jr, Jessica Grenga, and Anthony Souza. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mr. Souza was the brother of the late Frank Souza, Jr. and the late Raymond Souza.

His funeral will be held Monday, December 27, 2021, at 8:45 am from the Rebello Funeral Home, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Agnes Church, 100 Chatham Street, Providence.

Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Wampanoag Trail, East Providence.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Calling hours are Sunday from 2:00-5:00 pm.
