Retired Elementary Educator in N. Smithfield Schools, Gracia Maynard, Dies at 99

Gracia E. (Lavallee) Maynard, 99, of North Smithfield, died Friday, September 17, 2021, in St. Antoine Residence.
She was the wife of the late Harold Maynard, Jr. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Sigefroid and Philomene (St. Pierre) Lavallee.
Gracia graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1939 and received a degree in Elementary Education from the then Rhode Island College of Education in 1943. She later taught first grade at Union Village, Kendall-Dean, and Bushee schools in the North Smithfield School System for 27 years before retiring in June 1983. She had been a member of Slatersville Congregational Church since 1966, serving on the Christian Education Committee, Property Committee, Diaconate Board, Hospitality Committee, and Finance Committee. Gracia also served six years as the church financial secretary, participated in the Pins and Needles sewing group, and was a longtime member of the Ladies Parish Guild.
Gracia and Harold enjoyed traveling and visiting countries.
She was predeceased by a son, Christopher, and is survived by her son Jonathan, and his wife Isabel, of Harrisville, and her daughter, Nancy Inzer, of Harrisville, as well as four grandchildren: Catherine Hagberg, Andrew Inzer, James Maynard, Li Clement; and ten great-grandchildren, Caroline, Will, Emma, Thomas, Wyatt, Nellie, Sam, Aidan, Arthur, and Joseph. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a source of great joy and pride throughout her retirement years.
Her funeral service will be held Monday, September 27, 2021, at 11 a.m. in the Slatersville Congregational Church, 25 Greene Street, Slatersville, RI. It is requested that attendees wear masks.
