Navy Veteran, Raymond "Ray" Ephraim Cournoyer Jr., Dies at 65

Raymond "Ray" Ephraim Cournoyer, Jr., 65, passed away peacefully at Landmark Medical Center on December 24, 2021. He was born on September 25, 1956, in Woonsocket, RI, and lived all of his life in Rhode Island.

Ray graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1975. He was in the high school band and played the saxophone. He also graduated from New England Tech and received his license in plumbing and heating.

He served in the US Navy Armed forces from 1975-1979 and was in the reserves until 1982. Ray was a Boiler Technician in the US Navy and served on the USS Harold J. Ellison (DD-864) a Gearing-Class destroyer.

Ray worked at Woonsocket Hospital for many years as a boiler technician and maintenance man. He was also employed at the Woonsocket Housing Authority until 2015.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping. He enjoyed spending time with his family and he had pleasure in helping people near and far. His thoughtfulness will never be forgotten.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline R. (Garneau), and five children, four grandchildren, and two sisters. Children Richard Machado of Tiverton, RI, Elizabeth Cournoyer (Roger Rainville), Lisa Cournoyer of Woonsocket, Joshua and Norman Cournoyer both from Woonsocket, grandchildren Caleb, Liam, Roger, and Sophia. His sisters, Susan Pincince, and Constance Kramer. 

He is predeceased by his mother Florence (Garceau) Cournoyer and father Raymond E. Cournoyer, Sr.

He will be missed by his loved ones and remembered for his thoughtfulness, the willingness of helping others with pleasure.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 9 from 5:00-8:00 pm in the J.F. Skeffington Funeral Home and Cremations, 925 Chalkstone Avenue, Providence.

Burial with full military honors on Monday, January 10th at 11:00 am in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter RI.
