Navy Veteran, Joseph Duane Mopps, Formerly of Exeter, Passes at 74
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Leslie and Jeanne (Duperon) Mopps. He was the loving husband of Laura A. (Carp) Mopps for 54 years.
Duty, honor, and country epitomized Joseph Mopps who proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a SeaBee from 1964-1969, including two tours during the Vietnam War. He went on to work as a Shipfitter for Electric Boat in Quonset for twenty-six years until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion No-Vel Post 159 of Venice, FL, and the Disabled American Veterans R L COCHRAN JR #82.
A man of strength and compassion, Joseph leaves behind a legacy of how to live life with determination and grace. He cherished his time with family, coaching and supporting his sons and grandchildren in their respective sports, encouraging them to enjoy the outdoors, and teaching them the art of a true craftsman.
He is survived by his beloved children, Joseph D. Mopps II (Lynn) of Rhode Island and Charles L. Mopps (Kara) of Florida, his brother, Leslie L. Mopps II of Florida, his grandchildren, Joseph D. Mopps III (Stephanie), Makayla Mopps, wife of the late Richard Mopps, Gabriel Mopps, and Elizabeth Mopps. He was predeceased by his grandson, the late Lucas C. Mopps. He is also survived by his great-grandson, Mason A. Mopps.
His Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at 11:30 am at The Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick.
Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:30 am-11:30 am.
Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
