Melissa Burrows, 56 of Jamestown, has gone home to heaven, after fighting a very stubborn battle against a breakthrough case of COVID-19. While she outlasted the virus itself, the damage it left behind was greater than what could be healed.

Born Melissa Jill Warner, better known as “Missy”, she was the daughter of Linda A. Warner and the late George A. Warner.

Missy was known for being full of life. She had a witty sense of humor, loved a good joke, was laid back and was so sweet that she was loved by anyone she met. If you ever needed someone who could encourage you, she’d be in your corner. If you needed someone who could do a favor or give you a listening ear, she was the person to reach out to.

Missy followed the family tradition of being a creative soul. As the granddaughter of Connie Armbrust, she was a talented artist. She was a woman of many crafts and projects going on at the same time. In addition to painting, Missy could cane chairs, knit, crochet, carve wood, and write. In addition, she was a master builder of Legos and an all-around repair woman. “Queen Mel” was never without her ice coffee, her tablet, or a project she was working on. Melissa spent many Wednesday evenings in the company of her friends at Manmade by Jonne, knitting and talking about life.

Missy was a long-time election official and was on the Jamestown Board of Canvassers. She also worked behind the scenes for the Beavertail Lighthouse, the Jamestown Dumplings, the North Kingstown Fraternal Order of Police, and all manner of organizations. In addition, she was a communicant of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Jamestown. In her final years, Missy worked as a Customer Service rep for EZ Pass. Before that, she was a stay-at-home Autism Mom, Bank teller with Fleet Bank, and a USPS Mail carrier in North Kingstown.

In addition to her mother, Melissa is survived by her beloved husband, Edward of 35 years. She leaves behind a daughter, Jessica Burrows Falcon, with her husband, Robert, of Cranston, and a son, Andrew, of Jamestown. She is survived by her sister, Wendy Harvey, brother in Law, Paul, and niece, Lily. She also leaves behind her brother, Christopher Warner, his wife Thea, nephews Corbin and Aren. On her husband’s side, she is mourned by three sisters-in-law, June Scola, Jean Moore, and Jane Birdsong, a brother-in-law, William Burrows, and their families. Melissa was blessed with a large, loving family, and so many friends that they cannot all be named here. She joins her father, George, grandparents Constance, and Henry Armbrust in eternal peace.

The family wishes to thank the staff of South County Hospital, and Jamestown EMS for their loving care of her. They also appreciate the support given by staff doing their best to keep us connected with her, amidst their heavy workload, with respect to necessary safety precautions.

A visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Saturday, February 12, 2022 in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Rd., North Kingstown. Her Memorial Service will take place at 1 pm on Sunday, February 13, 2022 in St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 87 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown. Her burial will be private in Cedar Cemetery, Jamestown.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to any of the many things that symbolized Melissa. There's the Autism Project of Rhode Island, 1516 Atwood Ave., Johnston, RI 02919, St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 87 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown, RI 02835, the Potter’s League for Animals, 87 Oliphant Ln, Middletown, RI 02842, or any charity you see fit.

We were so blessed to have such a wonderful daughter, wife, and Mom. Hold your loved ones close.
