Giuseppe A. “Joe” Carnevale, 87, of North Providence, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Greenville Skilled Nursing & Rehab in Greenville. He was married for 68 years to his wife, Filomena Carnevale.

Born on March 22, 1934 in Pico, Italy, he was the eldest of four children born to the late Nazareno and Filomena (Pompei) Carnevale. From a young age, Joe worked to help provide for his family in Italy. He received diligent training from Master Tailors in Italy, a trade in which he would become quite skilled.

At the age of 29, Joe, along with Filomena and their 8-year-old son, immigrated to the United States for a better life and to experience the American Dream. He and his family first settled in Federal Hill, and after a few years, they moved to Mount Pleasant. Joe and his family eventually settled one more time, making their home in North Providence.

Using the skills he learned from his mentors in Italy, Joe provided for his family by working as a Master Tailor. A sought-after expert in the field of Tailoring, Joe worked independently and with various clothiers throughout the Providence and North Providence areas.

Joe had a true passion for his work and took great pride in his ability to ensure that his clients looked perfect. He had the utmost appreciation for his clients, where he enjoyed chatting with them and the relationships he created from being their Tailor. He stood by the belief that if his clients looked good, they felt good. Joe had the opinion that no matter your income status, everyone deserved to look good in their outfits. He was very philanthropic in that approach, often time, tailoring and fitting people for little to no cost. Joe continued to practice his craft well into his 80’s, retiring three years ago.

In his spare time, Joe enjoyed traveling with his wife. The two of them took many wonderful trips home to their native country to visit their family members that resided in Italy.

In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his two treasured sons: Anthony N. Carnevale, and his wife, Karen of Palm Coast, FL, and Joseph R. Carnevale, and his wife Deborah, of Richmond, RI. He was the loving “Poppie” to his four grandchildren: Anthony Carnevale; Lauren Kuski; Jessica Carnevale; Nicole Carnevale; and also his 5 great-grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his siblings: Gasparino Carnevale; Maria; Victoria, all of Italy; and also many nieces nephews, clients, and extended family members.

Visitation and Funeral Mass times are currently pending.

Upon discharge from the military in 1955, Robert A. Iannotti Sr. took advantage of the GI Bill and attended the New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences. In 1958, he, his mother and brothers established the Robert A. Iannotti Funeral Home, with him as director. In 1961, he also opened Reliable Realty Company to sustain his family while the funeral home was being established.  In 1977, Robert bought his brother’s interest in the funeral home, and in the early 1980s his two sons, Robert Jr. and Thomas Iannotti, both entered into their father’s business.

Throughout the next several decades, Iannotti Funeral Home has grown to be the largest funeral home in the community, serving all families with respect and dignity. Registered funeral director James Morel joined the funeral home in 2005, bringing with him years of professional expertise and compassion. In 2009, Robert Jr. became president and owner of the funeral home, with his wife, Kim D. Iannotti, and his son, Robert III. Robert III became a third-generation funeral director when he earned his license in 2012.
