Born on May 16, 1942 in Englewood Hospital, Englewood, NJ to James McKeon and Mary Conlon McKeon of Tenafly, NJ. Martha is predeceased by her three brothers, James McKeon, Robert McKeon, and David McKeon.
Martha is survived by her husband, John J. McElkenny, of Charlestown, daughter Heather (and David) Cohen of Charlton, MA, son, John P. (and Deborah) McElkenny of Charlestown, RI, daughter Erin (and Matthew) Manni of Charlestown, RI, son, Michael (and Kate) McElkenny of Ridgefield, N.J., and son Peter McElkenny of Oakland, NJ. along with 15 grandchildren, 1 ½ great-grandchildren, and her beloved dog “Rocky.”
After graduating from Tenafly High School in 1960, Martha started her career as a secretary at Mutual of New York in Manhattan. She married in 1964 and lived in Ringwood N.J. raising her children and volunteering at numerous organizations throughout her life including the Achilles Track Club NYC, the Franciscan Sisters NJ, the Goodwill Society, and St. Catherine’s Parish. Her free time was spent traveling, boating, gardening, and spending time with family. Even in retirement, she was generous in both time and spirit, always willing to help friends, family, or even a complete stranger in need. Anyone who knew Martha was touched by her kindness, sense of humor, and dedication to her family and the numerous organizations she volunteered for.
Martha leaves a huge hole in the hearts of her family and friends who were always entertained by her stories, and hilarious sense of (sometimes indelicate) humor. She truly brought life to the party.
There will be a Celebration of Life Mass held in her honor on Monday, September 27, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Romuald Chapel at 61 Atlantic Avenue, South Kingstown, RI.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Covenant House, NY, Times Square Station, P.O. Box 731 New York, NY 10108-0900, an organization that Martha felt strongly about.
