Margaret A. (Salhany) Haley, Passes at 102

Margaret A. (Salhany) Haley, 102, formerly of Pawtucket, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at the St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield. 

She was the wife of the late L. Michael Haley.

Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Kamel and Ethel (Nahas) Salhany. She resided in Pawtucket for most of her life.

Margaret is remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She was an intelligent woman, had a very inquisitive mind, and always read, and loved to be learning. She took many adult courses well into her 60's. She was also a talented artist, created paintings using all mediums, and exhibited at local art shows. Additionally, she was a talented seamstress both personally and professionally; she was very proud of her contribution to the WWII effort when she sewed sleeping bags for our troops.

Margaret believed strongly in "giving back", and one example was in supporting a foreign "adopt a child" program for many years. Periods of her life were spent as solely a housewife, while other times she worked at various occupations. She also performed volunteer work which included some years at the "Little Sisters of the Poor" Home in Pawtucket. Margaret was a member of St. Basil Church in Lincoln and throughout her life had always found much strength and joy through her deep faith in God.

She leaves her loving children, Saundra A. Sage of Florida, and Charles M. Haley and his wife Susan of Franklin; her daughter-in-law, Brenda Haley of Pawtucket; her two brothers, William Salhany of Pawtucket and John Salhany of Central Falls; her sister, Lorice Zahka of Dedham, MA; her six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late James M. Haley and grandmother of the late James M. Haley Jr.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Margaret's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Sunday, June 13, 2021, from 4 to 7 pm and continue on Monday, June 14, 2021, at 9 am in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at Basil The Great Church, 15 Skyview Drive, Lincoln at 10 am.

Burial will follow in the St. Basil Cemetery, Cumberland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the MS Dream Center, 155 Gansett Avenue, Cranston, RI 02910.
