Jose Furtado Luis, Passes Away at 82

Jose Furtado Luis, 82, of Seekonk, peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 14, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Maria Silvina (Cabral) Luis.

Born in the village of Vila Franca do Campo, island of Sao Miguel, Azores, he was a son of the late Jose Luis and Ana De Assuncio Furtado. He served in the Portuguese Army in Angola from 1960-1964.

Jose was an employee of American Insulated Wire for 18 years and later was an employee of Women and Infants Hospital until his retirement after 17 years of service. An eternal optimist and loyal husband, father, and friend, Jose had a zest for life. His passions were first and foremost spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren, in addition to wine making and gardening. He loved Portuguese football and never missed a game of his beloved Sporting FC. He was a member of the Holy Ghost Brotherhood of RI.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, he leaves behind five loving children, Joe and his wife Carmen, Mario and his wife Marylou, Victor and his wife Lydia, Grace and her husband Clyde and Anna and her husband William; his five grandchildren Stephen, Michael, Alexander, Emma, and Ava; and four siblings, Arturo, Maria, Luis, and Antonio. He was predeceased by his late sister, Ana.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours Friday, July 16, from 5 pm until 8 pm in the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 17, at 10 am in St. Martha’s Church, 2595 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence.

Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

The Luis Family respectfully requests that face masks be worn at calling hours and at the funeral mass.

Flowers are welcomed or memorial donations to the Prostate Cancer Research Fund, Miriam Hospital LCI, 139 Point St., Providence, RI 02903 are greatly appreciated by his family.
