Florentina Araujo Esteves, of East Providence, Dies at 95

Florentina Araujo Esteves, 95, of East Providence, passed away on Friday, Dec. 24, 2021. She was born on December 31, 1926, in Melgaco, Portugal the daughter of the late Armando A. and Pureza(Reis) Araujo.

Florentina, known as “Lola” to her family, came to the US, in the early 1950s and lived in East Providence her entire life. Florentina had a strong, independent personality we all appreciated. She was a self-employed seamstress, Florentina’s Alterations until she was in her 80’s. She was an avid gardener and was happiest in her yard getting things growing. She also loved cooking her famous Portuguese dishes for the family, creating many traditions around family get-togethers. From her favorite day of the year, Christmas Eve and its many fish dishes, to cookouts with wood-fired dishes the entire family would enjoy.

Her love was to spend as much time as possible with family. She will be greatly missed.

She was the beloved mother of John Esteves and wife Patricia, Donna Larsson, and her husband Jerald, Debra Wine, and husband Douglas and Olga Esteves. She is also survived by her grandchildren Tina Mason, John A. Esteves, Lauren Wine, Brad Larsson, Austin Wine, Antony Esteves, Jenna Larsson, Elise Wine, and Garrett Larsson. Florentina was the beloved great-grandmother of nine. She was the beloved mother of the late Antonio Esteves She was the sister of the late Joao Araujo and Beatriz Teixeira.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 11:00 am in St. Martha Church, 2595 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence.

Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, 1081 Hope Street, Bristol, RI. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Calling hours are respectfully omitted. Masks and social distancing are required.
