Elsbeth "Betty" Adler of Adler's Hardware Passes at 96

Elsbeth (Gottschalk) Adler, age 96, of Providence, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Miriam Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Carl Adler. Born in Aachen, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Margaret (Franken) Gottschalk.

Elsbeth worked at Adler’s Hardware on Wickenden Street in Providence for many years before retiring. A lifetime member of the Hadassah Rhode Island, she was also a member of the Temple Torat Israel Sisterhood and Temple Emanu-El. She volunteered at Miriam Hospital and the Jewish Community Center.

An avid gardener, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and she especially loved taking her granddaughters away on special trips every Sunday. Having unconditional love for everyone around her, Elsbeth was a well-known local icon, she will be greatly missed by all.

She is survived by: her son, Marc Adler, and his wife Janice of Providence; two grandchildren, Rachel Adler of Malden, MA and Jacqueline Nolis and her partner Heather of Seattle, WA; one great-grandson, Amber Nolis.

Her funeral will be held, Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at 1:30 pm in Sugarman-Sinai Memorial Chapel, 458 Hope St., Providence.

Burial will follow in Lincoln Park Cemetery, Warwick.

Shiva will be held at the home of Marc and Janice Adler.
