Eleanor Croke Dies at 96

She was born in Woonsocket, RI on July 31, 1925 to the late Prudence (Wadsworth) Croke and James V. Croke and grew up in Woonsocket RI.
At age 16, following the death of both her parents, she moved to her Aunt's home in Hartford, CT, and finished her senior year at Morgan Gardner Bulkeley High School. After high school, Eleanor worked for the Internal Revenue Service and volunteered at Hartford Hospital during World War II. It was while volunteering at Hartford hospital that she became interested in nursing. She attended the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing and went on to earn a degree in Nursing and Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the University of Connecticut.

Throughout her adult life, she was an avid traveler having visited many places including Vietnam, Spain, France, Japan, Morocco, India, and Africa to name a few.
She was predeceased by her two sisters, Sister Prudence Croke of Salve Regina University, and Mildred Hanly of West Springfield MA. She leaves two nephews, James Hanly of Jamaica Plain, MA, and John Hanly of Old Saybrook, CT; and two nieces, Kathleen Fitzgerald of Wakefield, RI, and Ann Gagnon of Brewster, MA.
Eleanor was buried beside her parents at Saint Charles Cemetery, Blackstone, MA.
A private graveside ceremony was held by the family.
