Army Veteran, Robert Jarvis Leonard III, of Providence, Dies at 82
Robert was a graduate of Portsmouth Abbey School and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He attended Georgetown University where he received his degree in Transportation Management. He first worked in transportation and later worked as an entrepreneur, creating his own historical sign-making business, Ould Colony Artisans, in Providence.
A transportation and historical enthusiast, he was a member of the Wiscasset, Waterville, and Farmington Railway Museum in Maine, the First Regiment of Footguards Reenactment Group, and local commissions for Historic Homes. He was a parishioner of the Church of St. Mary on Broadway in Providence and president of the Cranston Curia of the Legion of Mary. His lifelong affiliation with Portsmouth Abbey School continued through his membership in the Oblates of Portsmouth Priory.
He is survived by his beloved children, Rebecca J. Leonard of Providence, his brother Peter Leonard of Maine, his sisters, Phyllis Townley of New York, Anne Weil of New Jersey, and Evelyn Shoemaker of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and his two grandchildren, Catie McNeill of Wakefield, and Brenhin Vaughn of Providence.
He was the brother of the late Frances Leonard of New York.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
