Army Veteran, Joseph Barreiro, of Lincoln, Passes at 98

Joseph Barreiro, 98, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 9, 2021.

Joe was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Salvatore Barreiro and Jervina (Fonseca) Barreiro.

Joseph was a United States Army Veteran, serving in Europe. He was part of the D Day invasion of France where he joined his fellow comrades on the beaches of Normandy. In July of 1944, he was captured by the German army and held prisoner at Küstrin, Germany until he was liberated in February of 1945. Upon completion of his Military service, Joe returned home and was employed at the former Narragansett Wire for many years.

He is survived by his son Joseph Barreiro, Jr, and his wife Doris of Shirley, Massachusetts. He also leaves his stepdaughter, Kathleen Muldoon of Lincoln, and his sisters, Mary Jones of Washington, DC, and Edalina Grenier of Portland, Maine.

Mr. Barreiro was a devoted grandfather to his six grandchildren; Karen Acciardo and her husband Charles, Christopher Culpan and his wife Marla, Jeffrey Culpan, Seamus Muldoon, Kate Giannini and her husband James, and Kimberly Gomez as well as his eight great-grandchildren; Erin Acciardo, Jack Acciardo, Aidan Culpan, Cameron Culpan, Jordan Culpan, Aubrey Giannini, Connor Giannini, and Briana Gomez.

Joe was the brother of the late Americo Barreiro, Eugene Barreiro, Matthew Barreiro, and Arthur Barreiro.

There will be a funeral service for Joseph on Monday, June 14th at 11:00 am from the Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket.

His burial will be with full Military Honors in Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pawtucket.

The calling hours for Joseph will be Sunday from 2-5 pm in the Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket.
