Army Veteran, John Lourenco Sr., of Cumberland, Passes at 86

John Lourenco Sr., 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Anne M. (Scarpaci) Lourenco. They have been married for the past 62 years.

Born in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Fernando and Maria (Albuquerque) Lourenco. He was a lifelong resident of Cumberland.

He was an avid cook and enjoyed cooking for his family. He enjoyed working with his son and doing property upgrades.

He was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War.

John retired from Spaulding Brick Co., of Cranston in 2000 as Sales Manager. Previous to that he was employed at James C. Goff, Providence and also was previously employed by Ann & Hope and Cadillac Textile Mills, both formerly of Cumberland for many years. He was also co-owner of the former Lourenco's Restaurant, Cumberland with his brother for more than 20 years.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his two children; Susan (Lourenco) Chenard and her husband Donald of Pawtucket and John Lourenco Jr., of Cumberland. His three sisters Alice Rebello of North Smithfield, Ida Mendes of Connecticut, and Madelaine Aleixo of Delaware. His four grandsons; Peter, Andrew, Michael, and Kevin, and one great-grandson Brayden, along with several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Albertino Lourenco, O'Linda Costa and Anna Machado.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to John's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on Monday, July 5, 2021, from 4 pm to 7 pm in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at 10 am in the St. Aidan-St. Patrick Parish, 1460 Diamond Hill Road Cumberland.

Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Arthritis Foundation of RI, 2348 Post Rd # 104, Warwick, RI 02886.
