Air Force Veteran, Mildred Jeanne Mason, of Riverside, Passes at 80

Jeanne was a retired Lt. in the United States Air Force and a graduate of The University of Rhode Island with a BS in Nursing. She was a clinical instructor at KCMH for the RI School of Practical Nursing from 1967 to 1973. She taught at CCRI, as a member of the nursing department and served as headteacher for the LPN course from 1980 to 1995. Jeanne was also a member of the Editing Committee for the National League for Nursing Accreditation visit in 1995, where she served on a Department Search Committee for new faculty members. She was a member of the Math Committee from 1991 to 1995. Jeanne was a representative of the Nursing Program on the Academic Advisory Committee from 1989 to 1996. She was a part of the Peer Evaluation Committee from 1994 to 1996. Jeanne served on the College-Wide Student Grievance Board from 1995 to 1997. Jeanne was also a charter member of the Sigma Theta Tau Delta Epsilon chapter. Jeanne was the first faculty member to complete an EMT course and went on to develop and coordinate the EMT-A program at CCRI until 1996. She was a member of the Nursing Department Policy Committee from 1996 until her retirement with the rank of full professor in 2003.
Jeanne is survived by her son, Timothy Mason, and granddaughter, Sydney; brother, Harry Whaley and sister, Carol Ferrer. She was predeceased by her brothers, John Whaley, William Whaley, and sister, Deborah Durfee.
A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at 11 am at St. Peter’s by the Sea Episcopal Church, 72 Central St, Narragansett.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Wakefield.
Visiting hours will be Monday, June 7, 2021, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield.
