Accomplished Vocalist, Maureen Walsh O’Sullivan, of Cranston, Passes at 67

Maureen Walsh O’Sullivan, of Cranston, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at the age of sixty-seven.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Martin P. O’Sullivan of Galway, Ireland, and her cherished parents Dorothy (Martin) and Albert A. Walsh of Providence.
Maureen is survived by her sisters Eileen Walsh Butterfield, Dorothy Walsh Silva, and Anne Walsh, as well as six nieces and nephews whom she loved very much, Raymond Butterfield III, Michelle Butterfield Fontaine, Suzanne Butterfield Chase, Jennifer Silva Brees, Rachel Silva, and Conor Walsh. Additionally, she is survived by her seven adored great-nieces and nephews and her beloved four-footed companion, Belle.
Maureen attended St. Matthew School in Cranston, St Xavier Academy in Providence, and CCRI in Warwick. She earned her nursing credentials at St. Joseph Hospital in Providence. Although Maureen loved her caretaking work as a nurse, mostly in the field of gerontology, her truest passion was her life’s work as a vocalist. She was the first woman to sing on the altar of St. Peter’s Basilica The Vatican and for many decades was a soloist in hundreds of ceremonies and concerts at several local churches including The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Providence, St. Matthew Church in Cranston, and St. Peter Church in Warwick. She received many thanks by those who were comforted by the great gift of her voice as they sent their loved ones off to heaven and she considered it her great honor to provide that comfort, as well as to welcome new life to the Church in Baptisms and celebrate the union of lives at many local weddings.
Maureen had a great sense of humor, especially about herself, and enjoyed fashioning special Halloween costumes every year that paired her with her cherished dog, Belle. The phrase Maureen voiced most often was probably “Ooh, I love that song!” and she considered the old hymn, “How Can I Keep from Singing” to be her theme song.
Visitation will be held in Maureen’s honor on Monday, September 20, 2021, from 4:00-7:00 pm in The Butterfield Chapel, 500 Pontiac Avenue in Cranston.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at 11:00 am in St. Matthew Church, 1299 Elmwood Avenue, Cranston.
In addition, to honor her father and her sister, in lieu of any flowers, Maureen would want donations made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
