A woman was injured in a machete attack in Providence on Monday evening.

About Incident

Police were called to Grove Street — off of Harris Avenue — shortly before 6 PM on Monday for a report of an assault.

Upon arrival, police said they encountered a female victim with “severe” lacerations to her face.

The victim said a male suspect — who was inside his third floor apartment — had struck her with a machete in a fight over rent.

Police said they located and detained a male suspect in his 70s without incident.
