VIDEO: Massive Explosion and Fire at Manchester Street Power Station in Providence

GoLocal was live on the scene of a massive three-alarm fire at the Manchester Street Power Plant in Providence.

The black smoke could be seen for miles and smelled of burning rubber.

"Commanding chief has requested a 3rd alarm bringing 59 firefighters to the scene," Tweeted Providence Fire Fighters on Twitter at 12:35. "Rhode Island’s flammable liquid task force has been requested to assist."

"Transformer went down and burned and exploded. Oil burned," said Steven Pare, Commissioner of Public Safety.

He told GoLocal that he has been working with National Grid to lower power. There have been no outages as a result of the explosion, but there have been surges.
