The Town of Cumberland received a $500K grant
The Town of Cumberland received a $500,000 grant to revitalize the Cumberland Senior Center, announced Mayor Jeffrey Mutter.

“As Mayor of the Town of Cumberland, I have the privilege of bearing witness to the vibrancy that our seniors bring to this community. It is high time that they have a Senior Center that reflects their immense presence and energy. I have made supporting them one of my top priorities since taking office in January,” said Mutter.

The grant comes from the State Office of Housing and Community Development.

The Grant

Since January, there have been a series of improvements made at the Senior Center including new bathrooms, ceilings, floors, and upgraded exercise space.

Plans for the funding include: redoing the front entrance – ADA accessible doors, ramp and railings, installing a commercial kitchen to expand meal service, installing exterior patio, new fencing and landscaping, resolving drainage issues, repaving sections of parking lot for improved safety, upgrading the electrical system, replacing the old oil boilers to gas-fired, and installing exterior insulation and cladding to the facility.

“I work with our seniors every day and they deserve to have a beautiful space that they’re proud of.  This grant, in addition to the work we’ve already started, will allow us to accomplish something I’ve been trying to achieve for five years. I am so very grateful to everyone who has had a part in making this happen,” said Michael Crawley, Director of the Cumberland Senior Center.

Work is expected to begin in the spring of 2020.
