As part of the agreement reached, RIC officials have pledged to modify plans to add increased fencing and shrubbery in the buffer zone between the parking lot and neighborhood.

Construction will continue on Tuesday, August 8.

President Sánchez promised an open and transparent process which includes community involvement.

Rhode Island College has also agreed to seal off Sheffield Avenue from student and staff vehicular traffic.

Frank Sánchez pledged to build a stronger relationship with the college’s neighbors.

Senator Frank Ciccone and Councilwoman Jo-Ann Ryan are in the process of scheduling a community meeting during which President Sánchez will brief neighbors and listen to their concerns about the college’s short term and long term construction projects.

Rhode Island College will post plans for the project on their web page.

Meeting Attendance

The meeting was attended by Ciccone, Ryan, North Providence Town Council President Dino Autiello, North Providence Town Councilman Steven DiLorenzo, and Sánchez.

Construction on the parking lot was halted this week after Senator Ciccone and Councilwoman Ryan brought numerous constituent concerns to the attention of the college.
