The Rhode Island State Police (RISP) on Thursday announced the "termination of two Troopers from the 2024 academy class who violated Division rules, regulations, and policies."

The Troopers were fired following a months-long investigation into the release of a video of a highway pedestrian fatality that was subsequently shared on social media.

RISP refused to identify the Troopers.

“We are deeply disappointed that these recently hired Troopers displayed such poor judgment and lacked empathy for this family’s tragedy,” said Colonel Darnell S. Weaver, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety.

"These individuals are no longer employed by the state police, and we will not comment further as they are not employed by the Division," he added.
