Multiple Vehicles Struck by Bullets Overnight in Providence

Providence police responded to multiple reports of vehicles struck by bullets in the city overnight. 

About Incidents

Shortly after midnight on Thursday morning, police responded to 553 Branch Avenue for a report of shots fired from an anonymous caller.

Upon arrival police, canvased the area and observed four spent shell casings on the ground. Police also spoke with a resident of the area who wished to remain anonymous who stated they did not see anything but heard about five gunshots.

Shortly afterward, police were contacted by a female who stated to police that she was in the area when the incident occurred and her vehicle may have been struck. Police met with her, and observed a single bullet hole to the trunk door of her SUV. 

The woman told police that she was driving in the area of the Shell Gas Station at 598 Branch Avenue when she heard gunshots but believed they were far away. She said that once she arrived home, she saw the bullet hole on her trunk and contacted police. 

At approximately 4:30 AM, police were dispatched to 48 June Street for a report of shots fired.

Police met with the caller who explained that fifteen minutes earlier, she heard approximately 4-5 gunshots in the area but could not determine the direction they came from. 

She told police when she went outside to her vehicle to leave for work she observed her car to have bullet holes scattered throughout. Police observed the vehicle to be parked in front with three bullet holes to the rear driver side door, one bullet hole through the rear windshield, and one bullet hole to the rear passenger side window. 

The woman told police that neither she nor her family "has any issues with anybody."

Shortly after 5 AM, police responded to 173 Rugby Street for a report of shots fired.

Police observed a vehicle with apparent damage from multiple bullet holes. Upon further investigation, police located 12 spent bullet casings on the opposite side of the street from 169 Rugby. 

Police then observed one spent projectile in the street located next to the front driver's side wheel. Police also observed the front quarter panel of the vehicle to be struck 3 times, the hood to be struck 4 times, the windshield to be struck 3 times, and the roof to be struck once.
