GoLocal Launches “Save a Job. Save a Business. Wear a Mask. It Is That Simple.” Campaign

Today, 59,000 Rhode Islanders are unemployed and hundreds of businesses have closed and as we enter the fall and winter, our state’s economy is at risk.
GoLocal is launching a multi-pronged campaign to urge all Rhode Islanders to wear a mask indoors and outdoors in order to protect themselves and others from the highly contagious coronavirus.
The campaign -- “Save a Job. Save a Business. Wear a Mask. It is that Simple.” -- is focused on the economic impact when the virus spreads.

Simply, it is good for everyone’s physical, mental and financial health,” said Josh Fenton, CEO and co-founder of GoLocal 24.
GoLocal is visited more than 1 million times a month.
“Beating back this virus is about our health and preserving our economy. We can do an easy thing to make a difference. We believe folks shouldn’t lose their business or their job," added Fenton.
Medical experts are consistent on the critical importance
“COVID-19 is transmitted by coughing and sneezing but also by breathing and speaking. Masks prevent much of that transmission from people who are infected -- and also reduce the likelihood of getting COVID from the air, or from other people who may breathe, speak, cough or sneeze -- or sing -- near you," said Michael Fine, M.D., the former Rhode Island Director of Health.
Dr. Megan Ranney, Director at Brown-Lifespan Center for Digital Health said, "Studies show that mask-wearing can prevent over 2/3 of COVID19 infections from happening - saving our national economy almost $1 trillion. If we all wore a mask whenever we were outside our house, we could help get our communities back to work, stores, schools, and restaurants."
"This [CDC] recommendation is based on what we know about the role respiratory droplets play in the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19, paired with emerging evidence from clinical and laboratory studies that shows masks reduce the spray of droplets when worn over the nose and mouth. COVID-19 spreads mainly among people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet), so the use of masks is particularly important in settings where people are close to each other or where social distancing is difficult to maintain," states the CDC.
“We need, as a nation, to show a degree of consistency of everybody following public-health recommendations on wearing masks or other face coverings," said Anthony Dr. Fauci in an interview with the AMA.
“What we need is to get the message across that we are all in this together. And it’s important because one of the purposes of the masks is that if you may be inadvertently walking around not knowing you’re infected—to protect others from getting infected,” Dr. Fauci said. “We have to keep hammering home with that message."
