A man was arrested for reportedly threatening state prosecutors in Providence, GoLocal has learned.

According to police, the suspect - Corey Mangum - was at Superior Court on Wednesday with family members for his brother’s sentencing.

Police said while at the courthouse, Mangum “had made inappropriate and derogatory statements” towards a detective in the Organized Crime and Intelligence Bureau and called him a “f—king faggot,” and called a Providence Police Officer a “f—king a—hole” and a “disgrace to the badge."

“Due to the family’s erratic behavior, in fear of the family causing a scene in the public area of the courthouse, [Police Officers and Sheriffs] were forced to escort the family from the building out of the South Main Street exit,” according to the police report.

Police said that once outside, Mangum reportedly approached prosecutors outside the Rhode Island Attorney General’s office, calling them a “whore and a drunk."

“Mangum made further comments stating he was ‘Chad Brown’ and ‘Chad’ in reference to being associated with the Chad Brown Street Gang” and said “something to the effect of…we got the ‘adds’ in reference to having their personal addresses,” according to police.

“While Mangum was shouting threatening statements, he stepped towards the group in an aggressive manner…[and] balled his fists, portraying fighting aggression,” said police.

The prosecutors were “safely escorted to the Attorney General’s office” at that time; police say Mangum’s behavior was “loud, tumultuous, and threatening, creating alarm and disrupting public order.”

Mangum was handcuffed and transported in a Providence Police cruiser to Central Station.

He is being charged with threats to public officials and disorderly conduct.
