UPDATED: Providence Police Identify 20-Year-Old Man Killed in 2nd Murder of the Week

Providence Police announced on Sunday night that a 20-year-old man was shot and killed at 482 Public Street shortly before 7 PM.

“He was transported by rescue to RIH where he was pronounced dead. Detectives are investigating. Anyone w/ information is asked to contact the Detective Bureau. Continue to follow us for updates,” reported Providence Police.

On Monday afternoon, police identified the victim as Lucino Javier Arauz Bastardo.

This is the second murder of the week — on Monday night near Ford and Dexter Streets a 19-year-old man was shot and killed.

 

Violent Week of Gun Violence

In addition in the past week, there was a shooting outside a hookah bar on Allens Avenue, a man was shot near the Billy Taylor playground on Camp Street, and last Sunday a 14-year-old-girl was shot in the foot.

In just over 6 months this year, there have been 12 murders in Providence.
