Tom Frank is the consummate journalist. He was a Pulitzer Prize finalist as a top investigative reporter at USA Today and then after joining CNN, Frank became global news.

According to Business Insider, “CNN reported in June that the Senate Intelligence Committee was scrutinizing a January 2017 meeting between Anthony Scaramucci, who would later become the White House communications director, and Kirill Dmitriev, a Kremlin ally and the head of a sanctioned Russian investment fund. The story cited one anonymous source.”

Frank’s report came under fire and he and other senior CNN news staffers were fired.

Frank joined GoLocal LIVE on Monday to discuss his career successes and challenges and how the recently released report of special prosecutor Robert Mueller helps to properly establish the record of the events.

“Nearly two years ago, I lost my job at CNN over a story I wrote saying investigators were probing a Russian sovereign wealth fund and its interactions with Trump officials. CNN retracted the story but never said it was inaccurate. The Mueller report includes a 12-page section ‘Kirill Dmitriev's Transition-Era Outreach to the Incoming Administration’ that largely confirms my reporting,” wrote Frank in a Facebook post on Sunday night.

Frank on GoLocal LIVE said that if Mueller’s team was reviewing the relationship between Dmitriev and key officials of Donald Trump’s campaign and administration, then it is fair to assume that the Senate Intelligence Committee was reviewing the same relationship.

Frank's career included covering Buddy Cianci while he was a reporter at the Providence Journal in the 1990s. Today, he is covering climate change and other environmental issues for E&E News.
