University of Virginia Professor of Political Science Jennifer Lawless joined Kate Nagle on GoLocal LIVE, where she spoke to the latest in national politics, including special counsel Bob Mueller’s memo released this week that former security adviser to President Donald Trump — Rhode Islander General Michael Flynn — should receive no jail time after pleading guilty to lying to the FBI.

“Right now we’re beginning to see a lot of activity which is consistent with the expectation that Mueller would ramp up the activities post-midterm elections, which is exactly what happened — and what was released [Tuesday] night was the sentencing agreement between the special counsel’s office and Michael Flynn and it involved no jail time — which is important for a couple of reasons,” said Lawless.

“First it indicates that he definitely provided them with a lot of information and second it suggests because so much of it was redacted that the investigation is still far from over,” said Lawless. “It’s important to keep in mind that in order for the document to be redacted and for Flynn to have gotten no jail time whoever he’s helping the government get is more important than he is and he is pretty high-ranking — so this is the kind of information that people like Don Junior and Jared Kushner should find very unsettling.”
