Rebecca Couto da Silva

Rebecca Couto da Silva appeared on GoLocal LIVE from her residence in Bolzano, Italy where she said that as the economy reopens there, there is still fear as to whether coronavirus could come back and close things down again.

“We have a local pool here that’s usually packed — I’d say it’s been about a third of the people,” said da Silva. “Now it could be because we’re having strong winds and no one really wants to go out of the non-heated pool into the wind — or it could be that people are still concerned about coronavirus.”

“In my region, I’m not seeing a lot of masks — only in private establishments that are enforcing it. In a couple of weeks, we’ll see if that makes a big difference,” she said.

“We do have a lot of barriers between cashiers and clients. So the cashiers have to wear a mask, but you know one sick cashier could get a lot of people sick, one sick waiter, but it’s more likely the clients would get the staff sick,” she added. “So the barriers...you know it’s not quite clear, and I don’t think there’s necessarily a consensus.”

As the country reopens, da Silva said that people are still fearful of going backward, in terms of coronavirus cases — and deaths.

“I think after what we saw, the devastation that we saw, any kind of restarting always has this shadow over it, like could it happen again,” she said.
