NAACP’s Vincent on Appointment of Only Woman of Color to RI Judiciary
Thursday, June 29, 2017
NAACP Providence Branch President Jim Vincent spoke to Governor Gina Raimondo’s recent appointment of Melissa Long to the Rhode Island Superior Court this week, calling it an "excellent choice."
Long, who worked as a legal intern for the United States Court of Federal Claims and most recently as the Deputy Secretary of State, will be the only woman of color to serve in the Rhode Island Judiciary; Vincent pointed out Long is only the second woman of color ever appointed as a judge to the Rhode Island Judiciary.
United States Court of Appeals justice O. Rogeriee Thompson was the first.
