“The idea was to get everyone to rock together on one stage, under one roof and promote this concept of unity.” says Mr. Mortal, of the now legendary local showcase and open mic night he created to bring Rhode Island’s divided hip hop communities together.
Launched in 1999, the monthly showcase and open mic night, UNITY, quickly became a hot spot for emerging MCs and hip hop artists to break onto the scene and gain notoriety.
Mortal took a break from promoting the event to focus on family, but after 8 years away he decided to relaunch UNTIY with new goals of uniting the artists from the “golden age” with the young newcomers of today.
