Jonathan Hurt, Deputy General of the Prince Hall Masons of Rhode Island joined GoLocal LIVE’s Chelsea Guay to discuss their upcoming shoe drive this weekend.
The drive is an attempt to collect twenty-five hundred new and gently used shoes, sandals and sneakers to benefit people in the Democratic Republic of Congo and across countries in Africa.
After learning of Prout High School senior Bella Bianco’s project to collect 2500 shoes for the region, the Prince Hall Masons stepped in to help.
“Whenever there is an opportunity for us (Prince Hall Masons) to assist our youth doing positive work, we want to acknowledge their efforts and do our part”, mentioned Prince Reid, the organizations President.
The shoe drive will take place on Saturday, January 5, from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. at the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge, 883 Eddy Street in Providence.
For more information on how to donate the shoes, contact Randi Snead at [email protected] or 401-481-2598.
Established in 1775, the Prince Hall Masons is the oldest continuous Black organization in the United States. Prince Hall Masons of Rhode Island was founded in 1784 and is the second oldest Prince Hall Masons Lodge In the US.
