LIVE: Italy’s Coronavirus Numbers Move Up - Government Takes Action

Rebecca Couto da Silva says there is a growing worry in Italy regarding the increased amount of community spread in the country.
She has joined GoLocal LIVE for regular weekly appearance from Bolzano, Italy -- since Italy was hard hit by the Coronavirus in March.
"There's a strong sense of we're going to do what we think is right. And one thing that happens when you beat the numbers down, when you flatten the curve, is it feels like you're safe. So I think that there is a lot of complacency in terms of how to behave -- one thing that's happening is a lot of people are saying no these are coming from migrants, these are coming from tourists," said Couto da Silva.

On Sunday, The Local reported, "In a decree signed by Health Minister Roberto Speranza on Sunday evening, the government also said that the wearing of masks would be mandatory in all public areas where groups could form at night - defined as 6 pm to 6 am."
"The new measure, to take effect on Monday and last through September 7th, comes after wrangling between the government and regions over the nightlife sector, which employs nearly 50,000 people in 3,000 clubs across the country, according to the nightclub operators' union SILB. The decision comes at the tail end of Italy's sacrosanct "Ferragosto" weekend, a major holiday during which most Italians go to the beach - and many flock to beach clubs and open-air discos in the evenings. Indoor establishments had already been barred from operating," reported the news organization.
Couto da Silva, says the schools are expected to open in a few weeks but could be impacted if the spread continues in Italy.
"We're reopening in yellow -- it would go from yellow to red which is home school or not home school but distance learning which for me is pretty much home school," she said. " But for now we're still in yellow. If we have to go to red we'll go to red and we'll go back to what happened in March and April and May. I hope that's not the case."
