LIVE: Four Systems to Get Organized In Your Office
Friday, June 02, 2017
Organizing and efficiency expert Kristin MacRae with Organizing In RI, says getting organized in the office will help you work to your fullest potential.
To maintain organization in your office, MacRae says setting up systems will help you process day to day functions and become efficient and productive.
1. Process your mail. Process your mail every day. As soon as you touch it, either file it, attach to your to- do list to take care of during the week, shred it or handle it right away. MacRae says it helps to designate a time each day to process your mail.

2. Process your email. Have a process to handle an email as soon as you open it and create categorized folders. MacRae says treat email like you would treat physical mail and decide whether to send it to a folder, trash it, act on it, or print it and attach it to your to-do list.
3. Work with a to-do list. Keep a daily to-do list. Whether you keep a to-do list on paper or in your electronics, MacRae suggests making a to-do list every night before you leave work. This process will can help keep you on track with your day and help clear the mental clutter.
4. Filing systems. Create a filing system during the beginning phases of your business. If you need to locate an important paper, MacRae says, you should be able to locate it in less than 10 seconds. With that in mind, start a filing system and get rid of piles. She suggests, keeping files that you utilize on a daily basis close to you.
