“The Wild Card is Joe Biden” — UVA’s Lawless on LIVE

University of Virginia Professor of Political Science Jennifer Lawless joined GoLocal News Editor Kate Nagle on GoLocal LIVE following the announcement Tuesday by former Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders that he is running again in 2020 — and why she believes whether former Vice President Joe Biden’s decision to enter the race is the real “X-factor.”
“There are a lot of chess pieces on the board and the wild card still is Joe Biden. If you look at his approval ratings in New Hampshire, he wins by far. That really shifts the dynamic if he makes that decision in the next month or so,” said Lawless.
Lawless also spoke Sanders’ announcement, and how the crowded candidate field is looking at Iowa and New Hampshire.

I do think there’s a lot of questions as to whether he’ll be as successful as the last time around, and whether there’s room for his message given the messages of a lot of other candidates,” said Lawless.
