University of Virginia Professor of Political Science Jennifer Lawless joined GoLocal News Editor Kate Nagle on GoLocal LIVE to talk about the Supreme Court nomination process for Brett Kavanaugh -- and why she believes he might not make it through.
"It seems just a few days ago the notion there was this anonymous letter indicating that there had been some sort of sexual assault or some sort of attempted sexual assault was going to be enough of a bombshell to potentially derail the hearings," said Lawless. "But once we found out the name of the woman and her willingness to testify and not only speak to the Senators on the Judiciary committee but actually engage in a public hearing -- although we don't know the date yet -- that blew the whole thing open."
"The Democrats have to be very careful about their next move," said Lawless. "Some members of the Judiciary believe the FBI should be able to fully investigate before the hearing -- there's a decent chance we'll go down that path."
"I don't think [he'll make it to Monday]. I know I'm probably not on the popular side of things but my bet is he'll drop out before Monday, for a couple of reasons," said Lawless.
