Colin Reed

Veteran Republican strategist Colin Reed, who worked on Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown’s campaign against Elizabeth Warren in 2012 and now is the managing director at the Washington D.C. public affairs shop Definers, joined GoLocal News Editor Kate Nagle LIVE to discuss the revelation this week that U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, when filling out information for the Texas bar, listed her race as “American Indian.”

Reed, who was quoted on Fox News earlier in the week about “if and when her Democratic opponents decide to weaponize” her claims, spoke to Warren’s 2020 Democratic primary prospects — and more.

“The first thing I’d say is it’s a mistake to underestimate Elizabeth Warren — even though she’s had a rough week, she’s about to embark on her official [Presidential] announcement. It’s a mistake to write her off totally,” said Reed. “That being said, this was not a good development for her in any sense of the word.”

“Elizabeth Warren, since this story broke 7 years ago, really never has had a satisfying answer. I think a lot of the analogies that political commentators draw are not always accurate. In some sense I think there’s a correlation between Hillary Clinton’s email scandal and Elizabeth Warren’s Native American issue — because there’s never been a satisfying answer,” said Reed. “The story always changed, the facts never come out, and that’s why it lingers on and on.”
