Pat Fernandez

Newport Flower Show Chairwoman Pat Fernandez joined GoLocal News Editor Kate Nagle at Rosecliff to talk about the 2018 show that kicked off on Friday — and how “young” visitors was a big focus in the planning.

“[Having tiny houses] was the outgrowth of an informal focus group I did with young people, what young people would look for if they came to the Flower Show,” said Fernandez. “They said they wanted something current, experimental, relevant to how we lead our lives, affordable and accessible— that’s what tiny houses are for the younger generation and as well as people who are sizing down.”

Fernandez nothing that although there are always some changes with the annual show, there are constants as well.

“The thing that stays constant its always at Rosecliff, it’s always beautiful, and the weather’s always like this,” said Fernandez.
