Providence Pictures Nominated for National Award

It's more kudos for RI's Providence Pictures.

The production company has made a high-profile name in the world of non-fiction programming on television internationally, by combining stunning photography, dramatic narratives, excellent research, innovative animation and creative, cinematic reenactments.

The group has won numerous prestigious awards, including 4 Emmys, the AAA Science Journalism Prize, a Cable Ace Award, a Peabody, and the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Journalism Award. 

Now, Providence Pictures' program for Nova, "Riddles of the Sphynx," (written by Gary Glassman)  is nominated for outstanding Documentary of the 2010 season by The Writers Guild of America.

"Riddle of the Sphynx" revisits the 4,000-year-old question of the puzzling, human-headed colossus with the body of a crouching lion.  As an example of its innovative approach, Providence Pictures teamed up with Egyptologist Mark Lehner and RIck Brown, an expert in ancient tools and technologies, to carve a half-scale model of the Sphynx's missing nose, at Handshouse Studio in Norwell, MA.
