PC Professor Oliver Receives National Award for Contributions to Dance Research

Providence College professor Wendy Oliver has received the Outstanding Dance Education Researcher Award from the National Dance Education Organization.

The award is given to a person who has made a contribution to the field of dance education through creative and/or scholarly research.

Oliver has been teaching at PC since 1985 in a variety of dance and women’s and gender studies courses.

In courses such as Women in Dance and Sport, and Women in the Arts, Oliver integrates her multiple areas of expertise into coherent courses.

Oliver is involved in many school activities such as PC’s Saturday Morning Children’s Dance and Theatre Program, and PC Dance Company, where she acts as director.

Oliver is an accomplished writer and editor, having been published in many prestigious dance publications such as the Dance Chronicle, Dance Research Journal, Research in Dance Education and others.

She also serves as Editor-in-Chief of JODE (Journal of Dance Education). Oliver has two co-edited books currently in process: Women Making Art, 2nd edition and Twenty-first Century Jazz Dance.

Oliver holds an MFA from Temple University and an Ed.D from Columbia University.
