Tiffany Barrera of The Rhody Hen Cafe brings a scratch, comfort kitchen to Pawtucket. Having opened on Prospect Street in November, The Rhody Hen Cafe is serving homestyle breakfast and lunch.
The food that guests find on the menu are dishes that Barrera and her husband and co-chef enjoy eating themselves, “It is all things that my family loves to eat. We cook what we love, and that is the most important part, making sure that it tastes like home cooking. It is comfort food in a comfortable atmosphere.”
Ingredients are sourced locally and all made from scratch.
“Our freezer is basically nothing because everything is fresh. I source local goods, for example, I am getting duck eggs from Pine Valley Stables farm in Attleboro. We go to farmers markets and grab produce to use for weekend specials. Rhode Island has so much to offer, so why not tap into these sources. My saying is ‘small state, big plate’,” says Barrera. As a part-time beekeeper, she even uses local honey in sweeteners in house.
Rhody Hen Cafe recently obtained a liquor license, that allows them to serve breakfast style cocktails like mimosas and bloody marys.
“With our bloody marys, I do a fresh mix, shaken to order a little on the spicy side. I pickle my own peppers and green beans for a garnish, we can even do prosciutto wrapped asparagus and do our best to make it fun,” says Barrera.
As the summer approaches, Barrera announces the expansion of outdoor seating at Rhody Hen Cafe. “We are going to be offering patio seating right outside our front door. We will be sprucing it up a bit, and give ourselves a nice spot to sit and have breakfast and a cup of coffee.”
