"I have a deep gratitude for every person who’s spent time with us, and a well of appreciation for everyone who has worked here. The truth is, I can’t give glou what it needs anymore & it can’t give me what I need either. I think endings are both beautiful & sad, but necessary," said Glou in its announcement.
"I built everything in here with my own hands, worked morning through night for years, and I’ll leave proud of what we’ve made happen with our time. I’m excited to see what happens next in this space," the announcement continued.
In 2022, GoLocal interviewed Glou's Alexa Trembly, who started the business along with Emory Harkins.
Glou, which often featured small bites with its bar service, was also vocal in its politics.
On January 20 of this year - a "Free America Walkout" day held in opposition to President Donald Trump's policies - Glou announced why it was staying open.
"as much as I wish we had the ability to close tonight, we’ll be open for regular service from 4PM — midnight. like many other small businesses, we have many many bills to pay, staff to pay, and a whole lot of people who rely on us that makes it too difficult to miss even one Friday night. the importance of community, this community, is why we’re here—we all feel it. I’ll be making a donation to Dorcas International this week as well," Glou posted to Facebook.
"we’re here for you, offering a safe space for gathering and conversation and one of the things we know how to do best: good food & drink. come by and show support for your local chef @hals.tiny.kitchen they’ve worked really hard this week to put together another amazing menu and we believe so much in them. hope to see you soon & fuck (abolish) ICE"
