RI Ranked 32nd Best State for Business in U.S.—Moves Up 10 Places
Thursday, May 03, 2018
The State of Rhode Island moved up ten spots in the national business rankings.
According to Chief Executive, Rhode Island is ranked as the 32nd best state for business in the U.S., up ten spots from last year’s ranking fo 42nd best.
"Rhode Island is on the move. Dozens of businesses are opening their doors, thousands of people are back to work, and cranes are in the air across our state. Making it easier to start or grow a business has been a top priority since I took office, and our strategy is seeing results. We've cut taxes and fees for businesses, put permitting online, and helped match companies with qualified Rhode Islanders ready to get to work. It's great to see publications like Chief Executive and Business Insider recognizing the strides we've made as a state, but we still have more work to do to make sure everyone feels included in our economic recovery,” said Governor Gina Raimondo.

The jump is the biggest gain of any state in the country.
About Rhode Island, Chief Executive writes:
Rhode Island America’s smallest state jumped the most of any in the 2018 Best & Worst list because over the last three years, Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo and the state’s legislature, economic development and business communities finally decided enough was enough. The state eliminated or cut consumption, energy sales, unemployment insurance and other taxes and maintained the region’s lowest corporate income tax. It also overhauled government pensions and has been heavily promoting the changes. CEOs noticed. “This has resulted in 22 companies landing or expanding in Rhode Island in the last two years and more than 30 real estate deals,” says Stefan Pryor, Rhode Island’s secretary of commerce. “Now there are construction cranes all over the place.”
