BREAKING: Twin River Layoffs Climbing — May Hit 100
Friday, August 16, 2019
The number of staff being laid-off at Twin River is climbing.
Earlier in the week, the Providence-based casino company announced 30 layoffs. Now, 60 or more be losing their jobs.
“We expect approximately 65 table games dealers to be impacted by the recent decrease in business due largely to the recent opening of Encore Boston,” said the company’s spokeswoman Patti Doyle.

“No more than 100. Remember, we announced 30 table games supervisors earlier in the week,” added Doyle.
The Encore facility has opened to rave reviews and big-time crowds.
As GoLocal previously reported, Boston's new casino crushed it in its first full month -- $262,432,569 coin-in.
The number was big -- more than MGM and Plainridge combined and it significantly adversely impact Rhode Island's Twin River facilities in Lincoln and Tiverton.
Encore generated $48.6 million in gambling revenue in its first full month, more than the Commonwealth's two other casinos combined.
“The Department of Labor and Training is here to help Twin River workers affected by the layoffs however we can. At the employer’s invitation, we will visit the workplace and offer Rapid Response services. To date, the Department has not received a WARN notice from Twin River,” said Angelika Pellegrino, Interim Chief Public Affairs Officer.
