Well, Which Is It? Party Cloudy or Partly Sunny?
Tuesday, May 04, 2010
This is one of the questions I get the most. Sometimes, my wise guy reply is, “It depends on your outlook on life!” Actually, there is no difference. I use partly sunny for daylight hours and partly cloudy for the night. In fact, a quick review of all those sky condition terms might be in order here.
A forecast of cloudy refers to the sky being covered 100% by opaque clouds (no sun shining through). Mostly cloudy is the forecast for the sky covered from 75% to just under100% with clouds. Partly cloudy is around 40% to just under 75% coverage. And mostly sunny (or mostly clear at nighttime) comes in at 15% to 40%. Sunny (again, or clear) refers to from under 15% to no clouds at all.
There you have it. For all you sun worshipers, may all your days be at least partly sunny!
