Much Needed Rain On The Way

Saturday, April 21, 2012

As you may or may not have noticed, we’ve had very few big storms so far this winter and spring but that is about to change very soon. The atmosphere is setting up for a major coastal storm beginning tomorrow and winding down by later Monday. By the time it’s over we should come pretty close to cutting our 2012 rainfall deficit of 6 inches in half and several spots in Pennsylvania and Western Upstate New York on into Canada will be shoveling and plowing several inches of snow.

A few showers will develop later tonight and extend into tomorrow morning with the rain becoming heavier and steadier as the afternoon progresses. The main event with periods of heavy rain will occur Sunday night into Monday and promises to bring a tough Monday morning commute. It will all wind down thereafter to be followed by rather unsettled skies and much cooler air for much of the rest of the week.

So, our long stretch of glorious spring weather will come to an end but the silver lining is that we need the rain for our wells, lawns and gardens. After all, what would life be like without having to mow the lawn?
